Lately, many people have been looking for a mesothelioma cancer information. The surprising fact is that Mesothelioma Cancer Mesothelioma is a rare cancer but every year about 2,000 new cases of mesothelioma are diagnosed in the U.S. and that number has increased steadily over the past 20 years.

Many of us are not aware that our organs of the body are covered with a thin protective coating called the mesothelium. The lungs, chest, abdomen, heart and testes are even covered with this coating. But sometimes, a problem occurs in the protective coatings and malignancies develop within them. When this happens, the result of a condition known as mesothelioma or cancer of the mesothelium.

Initially mesothelioma was recognized as a tumor of the pleura, peritoneum and pericardium. Later, doctors studied the fact linking mesothelioma cancers to asbestos exposure. JCWagner wrote the first on mesothelioma by, and emphasized its ties with asbestos exposure in about 32 cases of workers in the “Asbestos Hills” in South Africa.

It does on the relationship between mesothelioma and asbestos exposure has been confirmed in various research studies worldwide. Mesothelioma is caused due to asbestos and the inhalation of asbestos particles. Asbestos was widely used in industrial processes and manufacturing and construction materials. Building materials like cement, tiles, shingles, pipes, insulation, and many others, which contained asbestos. The mesothelioma is shocking is that almost all American buildings built before 1970 contain asbestos that could pose a risk to the occupants.

Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation has published a fact that although since 1970 the protections against asbestos exposure have been established, mesothelioma would take 30 to 50 years to be noticed. This is because mesothelioma cancer and other asbestos diseases have a high latency rate. The asbestos particles can lie dormant in the body for 30-50 years before manifesting as mesothelioma cancers.

Mesothelioma cancers are of two main types. In pleural mesothelioma, cancer cells are found in the sac lining the chest and peritoneal mesothelioma is found in the lining of the abdominal cavity. There are rare cases of mesothelioma of the lining of the heart and testes. Mesothelioma is most common in men than in women.

This is a new health problem we face, or we may encounter during our lives. If we are not careful, we might just end up being an easy target for such a disease. Make sure you monitor your health so you can avoid having this kind of disease because it is very difficult to treat.

Awareness of the facts mesothelioma is also useful to have awareness about the symptoms of mesothelioma. This information helps in early detection and prompt treatment of disease. Chest pain that is caused by the cancer itself or shortness of breath, abdominal pain and swelling, cough, fatigue and unexplained weight loss are possible symptoms of mesothelioma cancer.

Tumors of the mesothelium can be benign or they can be cancerous. A cancerous tumor of the mesothelium is called malignant mesothelioma, but this is often reduced to just mesothelioma.

Mesothelioma is a cancer that begins in cells that line certain parts of the body, especially the chest, abdomen, and heart. The coating formed by these cells is called mesothelium. These cells protect the organs by making a special fluid that allows organs to move. For example, this fluid, it is easier for the lungs to move during breathing.

Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer that most often arises from cells lining the alveoli of the chest (the pleura) or abdomen (the peritoneum). Pleural mesothelioma is the most common form, often with symptoms in the chest area. Peritoneal mesothelioma is much less common. This may make the abdominal organs, and its symptoms are related to this area of the body, that is, abdominal swelling, nausea, vomiting and intestinal obstruction. The rarest form of mesothelioma is pericardial mesothelioma, which implies the sac surrounding the heart.

There are two main types of mesothelioma cells, epithelial and sarcomatoid. Sometimes these two cell types may be present. The sarcomatoid type is rarer and occurs in about 15% of cases, it portends a worse prognosis. In very rare cases, mesothelioma can be from mild, non-malignant cells. There are three main types of mesothelioma based on how the cells look under a microscope.

• epithelioid: This is the most common type. It tends to have better prospects than other types.
• sarcomatoid: about 1 or 2 of 10 mesotheliomas are of this type.
• Mixed: This type has the characteristics of these two types above. about 3 or 4 of 10 mesotheliomas are of mixed type.

What causes mesothelioma?

Most people with malignant mesothelioma have worked on jobs where they breathed asbestos. Usually it is men over 40 years. Others have been exposed to asbestos in a home environment, often without knowing it. About 3 in 4 mesothelioma begin in the chest cavity. These are the pleural mesothelioma. Another 10% -20% starting in the abdomen. It is the peritoneal mesothelioma. Those starting around the heart are very rare. This cancer can also begin in the tissues around the testicles, but it is also very rare.

Unfortunately, there is virtually no early symptoms of mesothelioma, which is why the disease is often diagnosed at an advanced stage of development. Cancer can take decades to develop in the body and the symptoms do not arise until after the cancer is present. Many patients are unaware of the seriousness of their condition, because the symptoms resemble symptoms of mesothelioma typically less serious illnesses.

Most people present with complaints of shortness of breath. They may also have complaints of chest pain. Surprisingly, this pain is often not pleuritic, is that it does not degrade with deep breathing. What is surprising in that the pleura (outer surface of the lung) is often implicated in this disease, and most other diseases involving the pleura are often associated with pleuritic pain (pain that worsens with deep breathing). Patients may be asymptomatic, the disease discovered by physical examination or an abnormal chest X-ray. Here are the symptoms of mesothelioma list are:

dry or raspy cough

Fatigue

Coughing up blood

Difficulty swallowing

night sweats or fever

unexplained weight loss of 10 percent or more

Shortness of breath occurs even at rest

The persistence of chest pain or chest, breathing or painful

The appearance of lumps under the skin on the chest

If you experience any of these symptoms, you should inform your doctor and have it checked as soon as possible. If you have a history of asbestos exposure, it is best to consult a doctor immediately. Inform your doctor of previous asbestos exposure can alert them to the possibility of asbestos-related disease such as mesothelioma. One patient with mesothelioma often shows symptoms 15 to 50 years after initial exposure to asbestos. The sooner the disease is detected, the more chances are that the patient will survive.

Mesothelioma is a form of cancer located in the lining of either the lungs, abdomen or heart. These linings are thin layers of tissue covering the organ. The pleura is the tissue covering the lungs and chest wall that protects and cushions the lungs. The peritoneum lines the abdominal wall and surrounds most organs of the abdomen. The pericardium is the tissue that surrounds the heart.

Mesothelioma is a rare but very serious cancer. There are three types of mesothelioma based on types of cancer cells. The most common type is epithelioid and consists of 50-70% of total cases and has the best prognosis. The second type is called sarcomatoid, consists of 10-20% of mesothelioma cases and is more unpredictable in nature. The third type is called biphasic mesothelioma is a combination of two other types and consists of 20-35% of all cases.

The majority of these cases begin in the chest wall (pleural mesothelioma), a little early in the abdomen (peritoneal mesothelioma) and very few cases from the wall surrounding the heart (pericardial mesothelioma).

The pleura is a thin membrane of mesothelial cells. There are two pleuras in the chest, the parietal pleura and visceral pleura. The parietal pleura lines the chest wall, including the inside of the ribs, diaphragm and pericardium. The visceral pleura covers the lungs and filters fluid from the chest. If the pleura becomes diseases it is not effective in removing fluid from the chest resulting in pleural effusion or too much fluid in the chest.

Mesothelioma is usually the result of exposure to asbestos. Most people who are diagnosed with mesothelioma have had jobs where they breathed asbestos fibers. It may take up to 60 years from the date of asbestos until mesothelioma develops.

Although rare, mesothelioma is a serious form of cancer that is often in its advanced stage when the diagnosis is made. In general, the prognosis for mesothelioma patient is poor, however, some patients live with the disease for a long time. As mentioned earlier, the type of mesothelioma has an impact on the prognosis and the patient’s age, how much tumor has developed and if treatment is rendered. There are many variables in evaluating a mesothelioma case, so the doctor can patients determine the best treatment and prognosis possible on an individual basis.

Pleural mesothelioma and lung cancer are the two serious diseases, but they are not the same. Pleural mesothelioma – sometimes called “asbestos lung cancer” – is not really a form of lung cancer, because it does not develop in the lung tissues. Instead, he is a cancer of the lining that surrounds the lung.

Mesothelioma and lung cancer

Mesothelioma is caused almost exclusively by asbestos exposure. It is considered a disease for asbestos exposure, which means that if you have mesothelioma, it is assumed that you had exposure to asbestos at some point in your life. Smoking does not cause mesothelioma.

Lung cancer can be caused by asbestos exposure, it can also be caused by smoking. In fact, someone who smokes and was exposed to asbestos presents a much higher risk of lung cancer.

Mesothelioma survival rate refers to the proportion of people with a certain type and stage of mesothelioma who survive for a specified period of time after diagnosis. Most of these statistics cover the five-year survival.

There are no national statistics available for different stages of cancer or treatments that people have received. The statistics presented here are from a variety of references, including the views and experience of experts. These statistics are a general guide and can not be considered more than that.

For cancer, the result depends on advancing cancer at diagnosis. In general, cancer statistics are given for each stage and the stage is as important for mesothelioma than other types of cancer. For mesothelioma, the search for statistics is more difficult to do because, although the incidence is increasing, mesothelioma is not common. Normally, people have no symptoms at the outset and are therefore not see a doctor in the first line of ETEP cancer.

After page of detailed information on the survival of different stages of mesothelioma. These statistics are averages based on large numbers of patients. They can not predict exactly what will happen to patients. No patients are identical and the response to treatment also varies from person to person.

The prognosis may ask the doctor. However, even the doctor can not know for sure what will happen to the patient. It can use the term “5-year survival.” This is the proportion of people in research studies that are still alive five years after diagnosis.

For both types of mesothelioma (pleural and peritoneal mesothelioma), patients often say they have less than a year to live. However, experts working in major cancer centers around the world, often report better statistics than that based on clinical trials are underway.

Overall, of all people with mesothelioma only about 1 in 10 (10%) were still alive three years later and 1 in 20 (5%) are alive five years later. For those who have been diagnosed and treated in the early stages of the disease, there is little information to exploit. But the reports we have seen that the survival estimates up to 1 in every 2 (50%) after two years. Therefore, the range of survival times is very broad. Survival depends on the stage and other factors. These are the main things that impact mesothelioma survival rate:

• Stage of mesothelioma
• Size of the tumor
• If the tumor can be completely removed by surgery
• The amount of fluid in the chest or abdomen
• The age and general health
• The type of cancer cells and its appearance under the microscope
• If the patient has been diagnosed with mesothelioma and long ago.

Although there are the results of a number of tests available, which are often very small studies with fewer than 20 patients or more.

In the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, doctors followed 120 patients with different types of pleural mesothelioma from 1980 to 1995. All patients were treated with surgery to remove the lung and pleura (pleural pneumonectomy), followed by a combination of chemotherapy and radiotherapy with or without immunotherapy. 54 of 120 (45%) of patients in these trials were Alive 2 years late and 26,120 (22%) patients were alive five years later.

Patients with epithelioid-type tumors and cancer in the lymph nodes has a much better image. Nearly 3 in 4 (74%) were alive two years later and more than 1 in 3 (39%) still alive 5 years later.

Another study of survival of mesothelioma in a region of northwest Italy. This is called a population study. The researchers examined the records of all persons with the disease in a given area. This study of an area with a total population of 4.5 million Europeans. Studies have yielded similar results. One year after diagnosis, on average, 1 in 4 (24%) with pleural mesothelioma and 1 to 3 people (34%) with peritoneal mesothelioma were alive. Another study showed survival rates for each year after being diagnosed with mesothelioma in the following manner, the survival rate:
- Year 1: 39 percent
- Year 2: 20 percent
- Year 3: 11 percent
- Year 4: 10 percent
- Year 5: 9 percent.

It is often difficult to diagnose malignant mesothelioma. Because it is a rare form of cancer, many doctors, especially those that are not cancer specialists are not familiar with mesothelioma.
Many of the symptoms of mesothelioma are not very different from those associated with other health problems. In addition, in its infancy in some patients experience no symptoms.

Pleural mesothelioma symptoms
Symptoms of pleural mesothelioma (mesothelioma, lung cancer) are:
- Pain in lower back or side of the chest
- Chest pain under the rib cage
- Shortness of breath
- A dry cough
- Difficulty in swallowing food
- Fever and sweats
- Fatigue
- Abdominal bloating
- Abdominal pain
- Unexplained weight loss
- A change in bowel habits, such as diarrhea or constipation most frequent
- Pieces of tissue in the abdomen

These symptoms are common to many minor ailments and, therefore, can not cause a doctor to suspect mesothelioma: pleural effusion and fluid in the lungs.
One of the most common symptoms of pleural mesothelioma and specific is the accumulation of fluid between the lungs and chest cavity. This often causes shortness of breath, and requires a doctor to drain the fluid, called needle aspiration to make breathing easier and relieve chest pain. It is no longer unique to mesothelioma, which is more likely that you may have the disease.

Symptoms of peritoneal mesothelioma
Symptoms of peritoneal mesothelioma (mesothelioma cancer of the lining that surrounds the stomach or abdominis) include:
Symptoms include:
- Stomach pain
- Nausea and vomiting
- Weight loss
- Abdominal pain and swelling due to fluid accumulation in the abdomen.

Other symptoms of peritoneal mesothelioma may include:
- Intestinal obstruction
- Abnormal blood clotting
- Anemia
- Fever.

Pericardial mesothelioma
Some of the symptoms of pericardial mesothelioma (mesothelioma cancer of the stomach or around the heart) include:
- Dyspnea
- Cough
- Chest pain
- Orthopnea (malestio breathing when lying down)

Other symptoms of pericardial mesothelioma may include:
- Upper abdominal distension or pressure
- Hiccups Due to pressure on the diaphragm
- The pleuritic pain due to stretching of the pericardium
- A further relaxation of the jugular veins of inspiration
- Diastolic rapid decrease in the venous pulse
- Decrease of more than 10 mm Hg diastolic blood pressure in inspiration

Signs and symptoms of mesothelioma, a cancer that has spread to other parts of the body include:
* Pain in the area where the cancer has spread
* Difficulty swallowing
* Lump in the neck and face
Like pleural mesothelioma, these symptoms are common to many minor ailments and, therefore, can not cause a doctor to suspect mesothelioma.

However, with the diagnosis of mesothelioma and new medical treatments, the lives of mesothelioma patients many have been considerably extended.

It’s about 3,000 new cases of mesothelioma is increasing in the United States of America. Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer and it is a sequela of exposure to asbestos. Cancer cells tend to destroy the mesothelium, a protective bag containing the body’s internal organs. Initially, pleura or peritoneum are affected, then it spreads to other body parts. It is a fatal disease and the survival time of the victim is almost one year from the time of diagnosis according to the treatment and other factors.

Prognosis of mesothelioma depends solely on the merit of diagnosis and treatment. If treatment is provided after a long delay while the survival of the victim grows thinner. Again, survival depends heavily on factors such as treatment, the type of mesothelioma, as well as patients’ health and morale. The stage of disease at diagnosis is the most important factor that determines the prognosis of survival and hope at least the victim. Unfortunately, unlike other cancer mesothelioma is a bit difficult to stage. This is because the symptoms of mesothelioma are non-specific due to which the cells have already matured at the time of diagnosis.

Early detection of disease is essential to the prosecution of any type of treatment. The location and size of the tumor, the response of cancer treatment, since the cancer has spread, what impression does not give the cells under the microscope and the age of the patients are some of the contributing factors that determine Mesothelioma Prognosis.

It should be emphasized that the diagnosis of the disease is not child’s play. Later it becomes all the more difficult because of the misleading nature of the subtle symptoms of mesothelioma. For example, if you cough and you might never know that you contracted the disease unless and until your doctor says while providing a prognosis of mesothelioma.

People are on the lookout for alternative mesothelioma treatment due to the complex and deadly mesothelioma. Not only patients, researchers and doctors are trying to find new ways to treat mesothelioma. There are many methods of treatment that doctors have found that success for pericardial mesothelioma.

Although it is almost impossible to reverse, those suffering from pericardial mesothelioma are able to get specialized treatment for their needs. Chemotherapy and radiotherapy have been two methods most commonly used treatment for cancer patients around the world. The use of these traditional treatments depends on the location of the cancer, the tumor size and severity of cancer.

There are many methods of treatment that doctors have found that some common drugs and treatments tend to cause discomfort to the patient and cause many side effects. Doctors have determined that by using alternative therapies, the patient can relieve stress, anxiety, pain and all around discomfort during their treatment procedures. Some of the most common practices of alternative treatments that are used in conjunction with traditional treatments are massage, yoga, acupuncture, meditation and nutritional supplements.

“Other treatment” refers to the use of different methods of accepted tradition. Most mesothelioma treatment alternatives are not scientifically approved, but some treatments found to give relief to patients and others are certain to be of no use.

Doctors recommend some of these treatments to patients who experience nausea, pain induced by stress and other forms of anxiety. It is important to remember that not all patients respond to drugs the same way. Some may not even need alternative therapies to help cure mesothelioma.

Several alternative therapies have been developed and are still in the process of clinical trials. The doctor may even suggest that the patient pericardial mesothelioma participate in these studies, especially since this cancer is so rare, doctors are still more knowledge about the disease. The patient should consult a doctor before, during and after alternative therapies to ensure that their process is going according to plan and no adverse effects are ongoing.

That many doctors are suggesting to their patients is to follow a therapy that is natural to normal processes of the body. These alternative methods include gene therapy and immunotherapy. These advances have been able to take the normal body processes and modify them to create healthy cells in the body. Others will try more than one alternative therapy with another form of treatment. It is very likely that some of the traditional forms of medicine will make the patient very ill, and this must be supervised by a physician.

Some types of alternative treatments have been practiced for generations, but are still undergoing research and development. It is very difficult to determine the appropriate treatment process for cancer that has spread to one of the most vital organs in the body.

Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer which malignant (cancerous) cells are found in the mesothelium, a protective sac that covers most internal organs of the body. Most people who develop mesothelioma have worked on jobs where they inhaled asbestos particles.

The disease is difficult to treat and in most cases, the prognosis is poor. The types of treatments for mesothelioma is variable, with some choosing the traditional means of treatment, while others prefer to stick to alternative options of treatment of mesothelioma. As with any cancer, treatment for mesothelioma depends on the location of cancer, disease progression, age and health status of the patient.
Treatment options include:

1. If the diagnosis is made in the early stages of surgery may be recommended to remove all the cancerous tissue. This means thoracoscopy, mediastinoscopy (used for staging), or laproscopy. Often, doctors recommend surgery as palliative chest drainage and pleurodesis, thoracoscopy and pleurodesis, pleuroperitonial shunt, or pleurectomy, which treat the symptoms of mesothelioma rather than the disease.

2. Radiation is prescribed for patients with aggressive mesothelioma is often given in combination with surgery or to control symptoms, palliative. Research on the use of radiation therapy using implants or UV light therapy is in progress as traditional radiation therapy damages surrounding healthy tissue.

3. Chemotherapy is an option and around 12-20% of patients respond to drugs. The anti-cancer drugs kill cancer cells and prevent their spread. In mesothelioma, chemotherapy is not considered curative. The aim is to prevent the spread of the disease, reduce the tumor before surgery, known as neoadjuvant therapy, to destroy the remnants of the tumor in the body post surgery, and to relieve pain and discomfort , palliative chemotherapy. Experts recommend prescribing premetrexed with cisplatin. These drugs have shown positive results, which is now standard care for Mesothelioma not treatable by surgery.

4. Immunotherapy where the body’s own immune system is stimulated to fight the disease. Biological response modifiers (BRM) are used in treatment. These improved immune system function, regulates the metabolic reactions that promote cancer growth, change division of cancer cells, block or reverse processes that lead to cancer formation, and prevent the spread of cancer.

5 Gene therapy, where attempts are made to correct the gene sequence that causes cancer. Many have opted for this form of treatment for the disease of mesothelioma. This approach aims to fight against asbestosis mesothelioma by correcting the gene that allows cancer tumors to grow in order to manage and control the size of the tumor and containing its spread.

This form of treatment is also in clinical trials, some patients have been known to opt for this, with some having positive effects with therapy. Recent studies indicate that using only one of the options listed above for the treatment of malignant mesothelioma mesothelioma has succeeded in improving the survival rate of patients.

6. Photodynamic Theraphy where a photosensitive medication is activated using a laser. Photodynamic therapy is a new treatment option that uses special drugs and light to kill cancer cells during surgery. A drug that makes cancer cells in mesothelioma sensitive to light is injected into a vein several days before surgery. After that, the surgeon attempts to surgically remove as much cancer as possible using a special light to shine on the pleura. However, this form of treatment for mesothelioma asbestosis is currently being studied for treatment much earlier stages of the disease in the chest cavity.

7. Draining the fluid in the chest or abdominal cavity followed by introduction of drugs into the cavity to prevent fluid accumulation is done for patients who have uncontrolled fluid accumulation and intense discomfort that result.

Often, complementary medicines are also used. In the case of mesothelioma, a terminal may opt for clinical trials of new treatments that are underway in several laboratories and research centers.

However, the survival of a patient is increased when the treatments used include a combination of therapies, such as surgery followed by chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

This approach to cancer treatment of mesothelioma is known as the method of multi-modality treatment. It is known to be the best choice of treatment options for mesothelioma asbestosis mesothelioma treatment. The best advice on the processing line is that recommended by the oncologist.
